When the Israelites crossed the Jordan River on dry land and camped at Gilgal, just a few miles from the gates of Jericho. It would not be long before the Lord granted them an unbelievable victory. But first, Joshua would encounter the pre-incarnate Christ:
When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?”
“Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the Lord’s army.” At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence.” I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?” The commander of the Lord’s army replied. “Take off your sandal, for the place where you are standing is holy.” (Joshua 5:13-15)
This is a powerful truth and principle that the Lord is your commander of your life who will go before you to fight your battles on His strength and on His might. Just like in Jericho, the day is coming when all those who oppose or simply ignore God will face the commander of the Lord’s army in all his wrath. The great news is that those who being in the Lord’s army, your commander, Jesus Christ, is preparing the way so that you will receive your inheritance. That same commander has laid down his life upon the Cross, taking upon himself the wrath of our enemies so that we, the people of God, will enter that good and beautiful land which the Lord has promised to us.
My prayer for you this week is that you will know that Jesus Christ is your commander who will go and fight for you to grant you the victory that he has won on the cross. And to know that we can rest in Christ for him to do His holy work.
